New years eve

January 02, 2003, 7:02 PM

New Year's Eve was a completely unexpected experience this year. We had plans to do game stuff with the neighbors, which we did. Earlier in the day I was invited by Barbie to go to a New Moon ritual which will be held tomorrow evening. I'm pretty excited about that.

So on New Year's Eve, the neighbors got home from a peace walk and let us know they were home. The girls and Lee headed over. I stayed here at the house for a bit because Booboo was down. We figured we'd switch and I'd head over. About ten minutes later, Barbie showed up with a drink in one hand and a plate of vegetables in the other. We went downstairs so I could find a couple of books to give her to read, then we headed back upstairs, sat on the couch and ate veggies and somehow got on her life path starting at about age 20. I think I had been talking about taking it easy on the booz since I was taking a shitload of meds and she said that she was doing the same because she was on lithium for the manic depression. I asked her when she first noticed the signs of the manic stuff and that's were it all got started. I'll tell you what, I'm not surprised yet at the same time, surprised that this next door neighbor/friend of mine who has 5 kids in a home schooling program did A LOT in her life.

I'll break it down for you. At 21 she lived with Mahraim, a dude from Iran. She said it was the first time she lived with someone that she signed a lease with. She said she had lived with guys before, but she could always kick them out if she wanted. Mahraim was eventually overbearing and from a culture where woman are treated very differently. Incidents occured and one night (happened to be New Years Eve and she hadn't slept in 4 nights) she left a party alone that was held by his friends, got in their VW van, crashed it (sort of on purpose), was unharmed, took all of her clothes off, tried to bury herself alive, heard a child crying, decided that wasn't cool, got her clothes on, walked to someone's house, police showed up, she was put in jail, Mahraim bailed her out, she eventually ran away, found a motel where people let her stay, police eventually show up again, she's thrown back in jail, her parents find out where she's at, she was taken to a private hospital, then a state hospital. She got somewhat better, moved from Texas to Maryland to live with her mom, stayed there a month, joined the Airforce, decided that she couldn't cut it, got out, stayed in a place she called the Casual while they processed her paperwork. After that she got an apartment in San Antonio TX, got a job, met a guy on the bus, they became friends, they dated, he asked her to quit her job and eventually she did. She moved in with him, didn't work and smoked pot all day. Eventually she found out he was seperated and had 5 kids. She got a job, eventually moved out, met a lesbian, had a relationship with her for a year, decided that wasn't right for her. After this she became christian, lived in a halfway house for runaway teens (working there). Her mom had a heart attack. Barbie decided to pack up once again to go take care of her mom. She had gone to a church of christ a few times, got a call from a dude saying "Hey, our church is running a singles group/bible study, do you want to join us?", she said sure, shows up and the dude that called her is her now husband.

Get it?

I left a shitload out. Then after we get through her life story, her friend J walks in with a few of her kids, looking bleary eyed. She was holding a bottle of champagne. So then we proceed to drink and talk. By this time Booboo's awake and happy to see the multitude of children milling about our house.

So that's it in a nutshell. It was fun and I got fucked up. Not hard with me. Barbie invited me to go with her and some other women to her cabin on MLK JR. day weekend and have a girls weekend. BUT, beware, her friend J has a couple of joints she's been saving for the occasion.
